Kimberly Kopecky, MD, MSCI is a dual-boarded physician in general surgery and hospice and palliative medicine and an Assistant Professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology at the Heersink School of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

She obtained her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed her residency in general surgery at Stanford Hospital prior to her fellowship training in Surgical Oncology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. She completed her Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and was the 2017-2018 American College of Surgeons-sponsored fellow for the MacLean Clinical Medical Ethics fellowship at the University of Chicago. She has tailored her clinical and non-clinical training to understand and research the surgical experiences of patients with advanced cancer and the ways in which these expectations influence perioperative decision-making and the experience of recovery from high-risk abdominal surgery for cancer.
