Dr Stephen Bell FRACS

Consultant Colorectal Surgeon -The Alfred

Stephen Bell is a colorectal surgeon at the Alfred Hospital with an interest in minimally invasive surgery for benign and malignant disease.

He became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2000, and completed the Australasian Colorectal Training Programme in 2002. He undertook a further fellowship at Hopital Saint Antoine, Paris. He is the past Chairman of the Australian and New Zealand Training Board in Colorectal Surgery, and is a member of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand. He is an Associate Professor at the Cabrini Monash University Department of Surgery.

Stephen is actively involved in surgical research, having completed a PhD in the relationship between obesity and the surgical treatment of colorectal cancer. He has also been involved in the introduction of robotic surgery and trans-anal TME to Australian colorectal surgeons, and has run numerous laparoscopic, SILS, TEMS robotic and taTME workshops.
